The Balanced Day Queen Elizabeth students will continue to experience a balanced day in the Fall of 2009. Following is a brief list of the benefits of a balanced day and our school time table.
Benefits of the Balanced Day ·
Increase in on-task time. ·
Increase in functional instructional
time. ·
Increase in achievement. ·
Additional segments of time within which to schedule
practices or meetings for students. ·
Longer breaks provide a better balance to the day. ·
Brain compatible research indicates that a balanced day
with an alignment of proper nutrition, exercise, and consistent teaching / learning sets
was a key to enhancing academic achievement. ·
With 2 re-entries from recess
at 8 minutes each, rather than 3 as we now have, there is a
savings of instructional time of 8 minutes
per day, 40 min. per week, and over 5 days of instructional time over the course of the
year. ·
Two nutritional breaks each day provide for a better
energy balance as the day goes on - better energy = better output. ·
Two 40 minute breaks each day provide more opportunities
for kids to take part in intramural or school team activities. This increases the time devoted to daily physical
activity, a factor with a positive influence on student
achievement.
